Video Frame Grabs vs. Digital Stills 2

Digital Stills

Digital stills have full control over the important sensor setting. This allows a scene to be framed exactly as intended. When a scene has moving subjects, priority can be placed on shutter speed. When shooting landscapes or stationary subjects, priority is put on aperture to ensure DOF and sharpness.

With digital stills cameras, there are usually strobes that can freeze subjects at high shutter speeds. Strobes are considered a necessity by underwater photography experts.

Digital stills provide the best resolution and sharpness due to exposure controls.

Digital stills = 12+ Megapixels (MP)

Frame grabs provide good quality but lower resolution and sharpness.

HD frame grab = 2 MP

4K frame grab = 8 MP
