1. Troubleshooting Issues:
1. Mechanical & Isolation Issues
-
System rests unevenly or sags to one side: Payload balance is off. Reposition stereo assembly and/or LEDs so the center of gravity aligns with the four Wire Rope Isolators. Do not use shims.
-
Isolators "clunk" or bottom out easily: Inspect wire loops and under the payload plate for obstructions and check for broken or deformed wire strands.
-
System feels rigid and doesn’t absorb shock: Isolators may bind from salt or biofouling. Soak and flush with warm freshwater.
-
White powdery buildup on frame near isolators: Galvanic corrosion between aluminum and stainless steel. Verify isolation washers and use correct bolt metals.
2. Power & Connectivity
-
No power to a camera, LED, or laser: Power down topside. Verify the MacArtney connector and locking sleeve are fully seated.
-
Intermittent video or data feed: Power down, un-mate the connector, and inspect male pins for bends or corrosion and female sockets for sand or water.
-
Topside GFCI or power supply trips: This indicates a ground fault. Unplug underwater components and reconnect them one by one to isolate a breached cable or ground fault on bulkhead or housing..
-
Connector pushes back out slowly after mating: Excess silicone grease can cause hydraulic lock. Power down, remove excess grease, and reconnect.
-
Threaded locking collars are jammed or hard to turn: Sand or salt may be in the threads. Do not use pliers. Flush with freshwater to remove debris.
3. Optical Performance & Data
-
Camera image is blurry or distorted: The exterior viewport is likely dirty. Flush with freshwater and clean with a soft microfiber cloth. Never wipe a dry lens.
-
Fog or water droplets visible inside a lens: STOP. An internal seal failed. Do not deploy; contact support immediately.
-
Heavy glare or "snow" in the video feed: Likely LED backscatter from particulates. Angle LEDs outward or inspect the viewport for fine scratches. Check SubC DVR-O+ photo guide.
4. Thermal & Operation
-
LEDs shut off unexpectedly while on deck: High-intensity underwater LEDs require seawater to dissipate heat. Dry testing beyond a few seconds triggers thermal protection. Limit dry tests and allow cooling. Check Aquorea LED Datasheet..
